Bonjour tout le monde, Hello everyone
I am happy that you found my blog. I hope you keep reading if
- you are new in Paris and find the struggle in everyday life both exhausting and hilarious
- you want to have some insight of Paris instead of all the touristy stuff or
- you are a Parisian and able to laugh at yourself.
I moved to Paris six months ago and was amazed. Such a beautiful city, so many things going on all the time, amazing possibilities to find interesting things to do and a nice job... I was confused when people kept asking me how I find Paris, if it is okay and if I can manage. Okay? Paris is great, isn't it? But in a few weeks time I started to understand what they mean.
I went for a walk. Thousands of interesting things going on and 100 000 tourists posing like crazy that is pass before getting anywhere. It is no wonder Parisian might sometimes be tired of tourists. And anyways, who am I? Not a tourist maybe but definitely not a Parisian...
I went to buy groceries. I couldn't find most of the things I needed but I met quite a few not-so-helpful salespersons. Although I have to admit that the stores are prettier here than back home.
I took the subway. My ticket didn't work, the subway was late and when it finally arrived it was packed and smelly.
I tried to book a doctors appointment. I soon learnt the meaning of
"Non, non, Je ne parle pas Anglais. Désolé."
The same phrase is used a lot among the shop assistants in bakeries, clothing stores and fast food restaurants. Many times some amiable co-customer was able to help me. Many thanks to them.
I wanted to open a bank account. It took two months, three appointments and an electricity bill on top of the basic scheme. And I couldn't do it without my husband. For comparison, in Norway it took 15 minutes and an ID.
Yes, that's the way it is. Now, after six months of Paris I am happy to live here. But still, almost everyday I face something that I find quite... interesting. And extremely shareable. That is why I decided to share my best moments of Paris with you.
By the way I absolutely admire the Parisians skill to find a parking spot anywhere. And the way how the don't mind a bit the scratches on their brand new BMW.

I am glad for any comments but especially those from people who share my experiences. Let's remember not to offend anyone purposely despite the humorous approach:)
